The French picture is more complicated, since more regions differ from the average and more gender differences exist, as shown in Figure 6.3. Men and women in Bourgogne and Bretagne display relatively low staying home rates, while nearly all high rates differ by gender. Men in Centre, Pays de la Loire and Limousin have relatively low staying home rates and high ones in Lorraine, Champagne-Ardennes, Picardie, Nord-Pas de Calais, Aquitaine and Franche-Comté. Women in Haute-Normandie, Basse-Normandie, Bretagne, Pays de la Loire, Bourgogne, Alsace, and Franche-Comté have low rates, while they show high rates in Lorraine, Aquitaine and Languedoc-Rousillon. Later we will show how nearly all male regional differences disappear in the logistic regression analysis and differences for women diminish, which means that many regional differences are not statistically significant or are composition effects of individual variables.
